Installing your BERG PlayBase yourself? Here's how!

With this step-by-step guide, installation becomes a manageable task. In eight clear steps, your PlayBase will stand firmly in the garden – ready for endless fun.

Step 1 of 8

1. Unpack & organize

  • Take everything out of the boxes and group the parts: top frame, sides/legs, connectors, bolts/nuts and accessories.
  • Place a piece of cardboard or a tarp under the parts to prevent scratches.
  • Keep small parts in containers or bags per step.

2. Prepare tools & workspace

  • Gather the following materials: spirit level (or laser), tape measure, rubber hammer, socket wrench/spanners, drill/screw gun, spade/shovel, rake, long straight edge (2–3 m), work gloves.
  • Working in loose or soggy soil? Keep stabilized sand/dry concrete on hand.
  • Clear the workspace and ensure you can move around the equipment easily.
Step 3 — assemble top frame and slide in sides

3. Loosely assemble frame

  • First, assemble the top frame and tighten the bolts.
  • Then, slide the sides/legs under the top frame and secure them as well so you can align it perfectly later.
  • Assemble and move the frame with at least 3 people for control and safety.
Caution: There is a risk of pinching your hands when sliding the tubes together. Wear gloves.
Step 4 — determine position with free space around it

4. Choose location and align

  • Place the loosely assembled frame in its final position.
  • Maintain 2.2 meters of free space around it for safe use.
  • Determine where the ladder and tumble bar will be placed.
Step 5 — mark out legs and dig holes/trenches

5. Mark out and dig

  • Mark the leg positions by cutting around the turf and mark where the horizontal tubes will be.
  • Move the frame aside and dig the holes and trenches according to the measurements in your BERG manual.
  • Ensure the bottoms are flat and level; carefully save the turf for later replacement.
Caution: Not sure about cables/pipes? Check first before digging.
Step 6 — place frame and level it

6. Place frame and level it

  • Lift the frame into the dug holes and trenches with at least 4 people.
  • Level the frame in all directions using a long straight edge and spirit level (or laser), and temporarily fix it with battens/wedges/stones.
  • Measure diagonally to check if everything is square.
Step 7 — backfill, compact, and rake

7. Backfill, compact & tighten

  • Shovel the excavated soil back in layers: fill every 10–15 cm and compact firmly; repeat until ground level.
  • In loose/soggy soil, (partially) stabilized sand/dry concrete can help for extra stability.
  • Once everything is neatly in place, definitively tighten all bolts and rake the surface smooth; replace the turf.
Tip: Fill evenly around (left/right/front/back) to avoid tilting.
Step 8 — assemble accessories and safety check

8. Accessories & safety check

  • Assemble accessories (swings, climbing wall, rings, nets…) according to their own manuals and check for free swing clearance.
  • Perform a final check: level, bolt tension, play, and symmetry.
  • Compact the ground a few more times over the next few days before fully loading the equipment.
Caution: If using stabilized sand/dry concrete, allow it to cure first before letting children play.
