At Fairplace we have been fans of Kapla blocks for years, the building blocks that are now world famous. They are simple but practical and you can make giant structures with them without glue or nails. So big in fact that the world record was broken last week. An astonishing example of Kapla building art was created in London. A tower of 27m high with 100,000 planks was built in 4 days by 18 Kapla builders. Talk about a record!
With a few more weeks of vacation ahead of us, now is the perfect time to take your building skills to the next level and build an impressive tower with your Kapla set!
Whether you're a beginner or already have experience with Kapla , in this blog post we'll share some handy tips and tricks to help you build the biggest tower this summer.
Here's how to do it:
1. Start with a solid foundation
Creating a solid foundation is essential for building a large Kapla tower. Start by creating a solid foundation by placing multiple Kapla planks horizontally on top of each other. Make sure the planks fit snugly together to ensure stability.
2. Build vertically
To achieve height, you need to build vertically. Stack the Kapla planks on top of each other by carefully positioning them. Make sure the planks fit together exactly and use your fingers to gently press them down and test if they are stable. This will provide stability as you continue to build the tower.
3. Go for balance and symmetry
Not easy, but keep balance and symmetry in mind during your building process. Place the Kapla planks evenly spaced so that the tower looks balanced. Try to make small adjustments during construction to keep the balance as best as possible. The better you do this, the less chance the tower has of falling.
4. Experiment with different shapes
Get creative and experiment with different shapes while building your Kapla tower. Add curves, arches, and other interesting design elements to make your tower unique. Play around with different shapes and see which ones work best for stability. Your tower will also look even better this way!
5. Work together
Make the building process a fun and educational activity by working together with your entire family. Include all your brothers, sisters, and neighbors. Build the Kapla tower together and share ideas and tips. Working together stimulates creativity and makes building even more fun, we bet?
6. Photograph your masterpiece
Last but not least: capture your building process and the end result by taking pictures of your Kapla tower. Maybe you are skilled in stop-motion or make a short video of the final finishing (or of the collapse of your tower, also guaranteed success!). Share your creation on social media, show it to @kapla and tag us with #fairplace. Good luck!
