Are wooden toys better toys?
Parents only want the very best for their children. This also applies to toys. For a long time, it was assumed that wooden toys were inherently better than other toys. But is that really true?
Wooden toys in many sizes and shapes.
When you're looking for durable toys, wooden toys are definitely a good choice. Think of wooden building blocks or Kapla blocks . These blocks are strong and sturdy and will definitely last a long time. Many parents still have wooden blocks from their childhood.
The only issue might be that the wood doesn't come from sustainably managed forests. This means it can be harvested and not replanted. This could lead to deforestation and depletion of forests, and we certainly don't want that. Therefore, always choose FSC-certified wood or PEFC-certified wood. Both certifications indicate that the forest from which the wood comes is managed sustainably.

Pure nature or colored?
Wood in its natural state can be very beautiful and develops a certain patina with continued use. Signs of wear and tear aren't a problem, as this means it's been played with frequently. If you choose colored wood, it's better to choose wood colored with natural dyes, such as those offered by Plan Toys and Kapla . These aren't the most eye-catching colors; they don't shine and usually still allow the wood's texture to show through. With these dyes, you can be sure they're extremely safe, even if your child occasionally puts something in their mouth.
What if the wooden toys are dirty?
No problem with wood. Washing it with lukewarm water and a damp cloth is the solution. Then let it dry before using it again. That's also the advantage of natural materials. It can easily withstand a few knocks.
Why do we choose wooden toys?
Wood is a natural product, feels warmer, and, as mentioned, can withstand quite a bit of wear and tear. It's strong and sturdy, meaning you can use the toys for a long time. You choose a sustainably managed product, so you don't contribute to the depletion of resources.
Wooden toys are naturally a bit nostalgic, and they come in all shapes and sizes: from the Wishbone balance bike to wooden Kapla blocks and the fantasy materials from Plan Toys and Tender Leaf in between. There's truly something for everyone.
